How to Pay Once an Item has Been Won

Once the auction or item has closed, if you have been successful, you will be notified by email. Payment for items won is due immediately. Invoices are available online in the 'My Invoices and Payments' section.

Payment methods we accept for UK sales are:

  • Bank Transfer
  • Debit Card Payment

For USA & EU sales we require invoices to be paid by wire transfer.

PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS OR CHEQUES

*Cleared funds must be received prior to goods being released

Payment of Sales Tax

Sales tax is payable at the prevailing rate on all goods purchased. For sales made out of the UK, VAT is charged on both the hammer price and buyers premium. If goods are subsequently removed or exported out of the UK, VAT can be refunded on the hammer price providing sufficient proof of export is supplied to Apex. This only applies to goods that have left the UK within three months of the auction date.

When visiting any site you may be required to wear safety equipment.  As a minimum we request safety footwear to be worn, please check all auction information before making your visit.

We strongly recommend all customers view any items they wish to purchase before bidding.

Generally, items for sale in one of our online event auctions will be available for viewing (and bidding) for 2 days prior to the closing date.

Please see the Auction Details page of the auction you are interested in for further information. From this page you can also download a pdf version of the auction lot listing, these will not be provided on-site so please bring your own.

We understand how stressful and complicated the removal of goods from a site can be. We endeavour to make this process as easy as possible for customers by suggesting a network of contractors in the shipping and removal industries.

Please see the service providers section for a full list of contractors.

Removal of items is solely the responsibility of the purchaser/and or those collecting on their behalf.

Suggested Contractors

All suggested contractors are vetted to ensure they are operating within current health and safety legislation and can fully satisfy the following criteria:

Please see the service providers section for a full list of contractors.

Removing Equipment Yourself

Due to health and safety legislation, we would require you or your chosen contractor to fulfil all of the criteria that we apply to our suggested contractors (see above).

Access to the site will not be permitted until all the necessary documentation is completed and approved by us.

What is overtime bidding?

Overtime bidding occurs if there is a bid placed on an item in the final 10 minutes of the sale. When the bid is placed the end time will extend by a further 10 minutes. Further bids will not extend the end time unless placed in the final 10 minutes.

Why do we use overtime bidding?

Our bidding software attempts to re-create the experience of a live auction room. With a fixed cut off time, the item is sold to the bidder who clicks the bid button last, whereas with overtime bidding the item is sold to the bidder who is willing to pay the highest amount.

Registering For Online Event Auctions

Firstly you will need to register an account with us. You can do this by clicking on the create account link at the top of any page.

To register for an event auction either click on the relevant link on the home page or select the auction from the auction calendar, and click on the blue 'Register' button on any item.

Complete all the required fields, and then tick the box to confirm you have read and agree to the terms & conditions. Once you have completed the registration form it will be submitted for approval, when you are approved a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you signed up with.

Please note that in some instances a refundable deposit may be required.

Registering For The Marketplace

You will be asked to register for 'The Marketplace' the first time you place a bid on an item. You only need to do this once and when approved you will be able to bid on any item within 'The Marketplace'.

Bidding with us

Bids, offers or purchases can be placed on any item on any page where you see the blue 'place bid', 'make offer' or 'buy now' button.

  • Incremental Bidding
Places the next incremental bid for the item/lot. Bidding increment values will vary depending on the item, this is displayed below the highest bid price. After placing the incremental bid the box at the bottom of the item/lot listing will turn green to show that you are winning. If a red box is returned your bid is either not high enough to beat the reserve, or another user has placed an auto bid on the item/lot.
  • Autobid
Allows you to place the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item. The auction software will bid automatically on your behalf up to that amount as bids are placed by other users.
  • Make Offer
On some items, you have the option to pre-purchase prior to the closing date. These items will be marked with a 'Make Offer' button. Please note all offers have to be approved by our clients and we aim to process an offer within 24 hours. Should your offer be rejected you have two further attempts to pre-purchase the item. If your third offer is rejected you will be unable to submit any further offers for that item. However, you will still be able to place incremental or auto bids on the item.

Some sellers may consider offers on items which have not been marked with a 'Make Offer' button. Please contact your local office who will be able to provide you with more information.
  • Buy Now
In The Marketplace, sellers have the option to list their item for sale at a set price. The listed price is displayed on the button, i.e. 'Buy Now £1,000'. To buy the item simply click the button once you are logged in. After you have confirmed your purchase the item will be marked as sold on the site and you will be sent an email detailing the transaction.
